Chronology of cameras Gaumont
The Gaumont Spido Universel from 1906-1908 is easily recognisable by the sliding lever on the right side of the body, which controls the shutter cocking. This shutter is a simple non-capping Anschütz focal plane shutter with internal slit width control and was modified and manufactured by Gaumont. Before, the Spido Universel was fitted with a regular Anschütz shutter.
The focal plane shutter delivers instantaneous speeds in the range 1/45 to 1/1000 plus time exposures. The behind-the-lens front shutter is the usual Decaux shutter, and the fitted lens is a Krauss Tessar-Zeiss 134mm/f6.3. The front panel has cross and vertical movements. The folding viewfinder allows for eye-level or waist-level viewing. It has a magazine for 12 plates in format 9 x 12 cm.
